A new year, a new trip.

I remember having a good time with this blog and posting on the way home from Fairbanks, AK last year. I thought I would try it again for my current trip.

I’m leaving tomorrow morning for a 3 week vacation. I’m spending 14 days rafting on the Colorado River in The Grand Canyon. We go onto the river Wednesday or Thursday of next week, I’m not exactly sure when. Good thing I’m not coordinating logistics this time around πŸ˜‰

In the time before we get to the river, we’ll visit Arches, Moab, Monument Valley, etc. I believe we’re taking an overnight hike into The Grand Canyon down to Horseshoe Mesa. I might have that name wrong, so don’t hold me to it πŸ˜‰

When we get out of the canyon, we’re going through Zion on the way home. I hear β€œAngel’s Landing” is spectacular, and a bit terrifying. Something about a thin piece of rock with long, sheer drops on either side. My fingers tingle just typing about it…

I’m taking the camera along for the whole trip. The laptop? Well not onto the river. There probably isn’t any cell reception down there anyways πŸ™‚ So it will stay at the hotel for two weeks. But I’ll use it on either side and post what I can from the road.

I think this trip will have some postings, but the bulk of the pictures won’t appear until I get back home and have some time to post process the images. So perhaps late September/October. We’ll see how things play out πŸ™‚

If you’re still following, Cool! If you’re just tuning in for this trip, Welcome!

I’ll have to stop procrastinating now and get to work packing…

My Penmanship is Certainly Nothing to Write About

Home at last.

There really isn’t more to say than that. Wyoming is big and interestingly pretty for this time of year πŸ™‚

I’ll write something funnier later to wrap up this whole trip but tonight, I’m just happy to be home.

Enjoy the pictures!

Here is the back of the car. We packed it pretty full. Not a lot of room left over πŸ™‚

2

And a view of the car from the front seat. The blank space on the left is where I stash the camera and laptop πŸ™‚

Weather in Wyoming

We’ve been racing this storm front for a couple days now πŸ™‚

Comb Is Where The Part Is

9

Ryan says Hi and apologizes for the “white man” nature of his fire yesterday.

Thanks for all the comments! It makes me happy to know that people are watching and to some degree enjoying me on my little web soapbox πŸ™‚

We finished our second to last day of travel. From Great Falls, MT to Sheridan, WY. First day of partial Internet access along the way. The sun was out. And we drove and drove and drove. πŸ™‚

Through the mountains we tried to run the up-down-up-down-left-right-left-right-B-A-Start combo but we couldn’t find the A or B buttons on the car.

Checked out Custer’s Last Stand in Montana. But we got there too late in the day to get inside and check the area out. We thought about hopping the fence but then that could lead to an involuntary reenactment of Custer’s Last Stand. Not such a good idea…

And then we found Wyoming…

Interestingly enough this is not my first encounter with Wyoming. We have had dealings before.

What strikes me the most about today is that it is the day before I get home. Such a weird thought. But I have an apartment that will need to be cleaned. Food to buy. Bills to pay. Video games to play.

Over the last few days, that’s not what home has meant to me. These last few days it’s been a tent, a car, or someone’s house that I get to crash at. Home has been about blogging things along the road. Capturing pictures. Hunting for radio stations. Making sure the driver doesn’t fall asleep. That’s what home has been for me.

Go figure.

Here are the pictures from today!

1

As soon as my EVDO card started working again… I was online baby! Checking e-mail. Posting Blogs. Enjoying comments. Here you can see our tent at the cool KOA campground. What am I doing? Checking e-mail. πŸ™‚

2

Lewis and Clark are pretty big in Montana. Kinda like the Beatles or Christopher Walkin are big here in Colorado. So Ryan and I decided to honor them in the best fashion we could think of. Imitation!!!

3

Montana’s landscapes could very easily be picked up and placed in Colorado and I don’t think many people would notice.

4

Last night of camping. Pretty typical of our setup. Except sometimes it’s gravel or dirt. The last two nights it has been grass. πŸ™‚

5

Typical Dinner setup. The crates have food and cooking gear. We have Sausage Gumbo on to cook. Ryan’s dozing. I’m playing around with the camera. As usual. (It’s easier than making myself useful. Shhh. Don’t tell!)

6

Gotta get that dog into the picture somehow. πŸ™‚
